Privacy Policy

CrewJar provides cashless tipping for crew-based service businesses. We take privacy seriously and try to collect only what's needed to run the service. This page summarizes our approach. For specifics, email hello@crewjar.com.

What we collect

  • Account information. Email, business name, role, and basic profile data for operators and crew members.
  • Payment data. Payment processing is handled through Stripe. We do not store credit card numbers. Stripe processes payments under its own privacy policy.
  • Guest tip data. Tip amounts, optional receipt email, and an optional note left for the crew. Receipt emails are used only to send the receipt.
  • Technical and operational data. Server logs (IP address, user agent, request URLs, timestamps), authentication session cookies, and error reports used to debug issues and protect the service. Error reports may include account identifiers — see "Who we share information with" for the providers involved.

How we use information

We use the information above to:

  • Provide and operate the Service (process tips, send receipts, calculate splits)
  • Verify identity and prevent fraud
  • Communicate with you about your account and important changes
  • Improve the Service (debug issues, develop features)
  • Comply with legal obligations (tax reporting, fraud investigations)

Our legal basis for processing is typically (a) performance of a contract with you, (b) compliance with legal obligations, or (c) our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the Service.

Who we share information with

We share information only with:

  • Stripe — our payment processor. Stripe handles all card data, crew identity verification, and bank-account information. We never see or store card numbers or bank details.
  • Supabase — our database and authentication provider. Stores account data and earnings records.
  • Resend — our transactional email provider. Sends magic-link logins, invites, and tip receipts.
  • Netlify — our hosting provider. Serves the Service and processes web requests.
  • Sentry — our error monitoring provider. May receive account or operational identifiers in error reports.
  • Within an organization — operators see their own crew's earnings; crew see their own earnings. Crew do not see other crew's earnings unless an operator opts in.
  • Across organizations — never. Different operators cannot see each other's data; this is enforced at the database level by row-level security.
  • Legal compliance — we may disclose information if required by law, valid legal process, or to protect rights, property, or safety.
  • We do not sell personal data.

How long we keep information

  • Account data: as long as your account is active, plus a reasonable period after closure for legal and financial record-keeping.
  • Tip and payout records: retained for at least 7 years for tax and financial compliance, consistent with Stripe's retention.
  • Support emails: typically 2 years, then deleted.
  • Server logs and error reports: typically 90 days, longer for security investigations.

Your rights

  • Access, correct, or delete your data. Email hello@crewjar.com with your request.
  • Export your data. Email hello@crewjar.com.
  • Update account information through your dashboard.
  • EU/UK residents have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
  • If you are a California resident, you can email us with privacy requests. We do not sell personal information.

International transfers

CrewJar operates from the United States. If you use the Service from outside the US, your information may be processed in the US. Where required, we rely on standard contractual clauses and our providers' international-transfer safeguards.

Children

CrewJar is not directed to anyone under 18 and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have, email hello@crewjar.com and we'll delete it.

Cookies and tracking

We use session cookies that are required to keep you logged in. We don't currently run third-party page-view analytics or advertising trackers. Stripe sets its own cookies during the payment flow, governed by Stripe's privacy policy.
